Incandescence is light produced from a heated object. For example, the sun produces light as a result of the extreme internal heating from nuclear fusion activity at its core.
Incandescence was first mentioned in Module 1 (Basic Electrical Principles), where it was explained that in the lighting industry incandescence specifically relates to the light produced from a tungsten wire (filament).
The filament is a conductor which achieves a state of white heat as a result of its resistance to an electric current being passed through it.
This module focuses on the operation, components and manufacture of conventional incandescent lamps.
